How to Get a Transcript from an Instagram Reel product example

An Instagram Reel transcript turns spoken audio into text you can search, quote, edit, and export. You do not need to replay the Reel sentence by sentence or type the dialogue manually. You do need a public Reel URL and permission to use the resulting text.

1. Copy the public Reel URL

Open the Reel on Instagram, use its share menu, and copy the link. A typical supported link contains /reel/ or /reels/ followed by the post identifier. The Reel must be accessible without signing in.

Private accounts, deleted posts, login-only pages, and expired links cannot be processed. Making a private URL look public by changing the text of the link does not change its access permissions.

Open the Instagram Transcript generator, paste the URL, and select Transcribe. The service validates the address before fetching any media. Anonymous visitors can currently process videos up to 120 seconds; signed-in users can process videos up to five minutes.

The task then moves through preparation, media retrieval, audio normalization, speech recognition, and timestamp alignment. Keep the result page open while it works. A processing failure usually means the Reel is unavailable, too long, private, or temporarily unreachable.

3. Review the timestamped transcript

The result is divided into segments with start and end times. Search for a name or phrase to find the relevant moment, then compare important wording with the original Reel.

Speech recognition can mishear:

  • names, brands, and unfamiliar technical terms;
  • speech covered by music or background noise;
  • overlapping speakers;
  • strong accents or very fast delivery;
  • numbers that sound alike.

Treat timestamps as a review aid rather than proof that every word is exact. Replay the source before publishing a quotation or factual claim.

4. Copy or export the result

Copy the complete text for notes, research, or editing. When downloads are enabled, TXT is suitable for plain text, while SRT and VTT preserve timing for subtitles. See the Instagram transcript export guide when captions are your next step.

Transcript records are temporary: anonymous results expire within 24 hours and signed-in results within seven days. Download anything you need before it expires, or delete the result sooner from the result page.

Before you use the transcript

Only process content you have permission to use. A public Reel is publicly viewable, but that does not automatically transfer copyright or grant permission to republish its words. Quote responsibly, preserve context, and attribute the creator where appropriate.
